Pollination in Pitmedden

Out for a walk with the dog in Pitmedden Forest this morning. The foxgloves were beautiful here today - standing straight and tall, providing scattered splashes of vibrant colour here and there amongst the greenery.

I took lots of photos of them, including some good close ups that I was really pleased with. All along I was thinking though that I hadn't seen a bumble bee around any of them. It wasn't raining when I was here, but it had been pouring down a little earlier - was the atmosphere too damp still for them to want to venture out?

Then, just as I was in sight of the car on my way back, I spotted one entering a flower. I knelt below as best as I could get and just kept snapping. I have some clear and focused shots where you can just see it's legs inside the flower, but I decided to upload this one. The bee had been inside for ages and I knew it would be coming out soon. I reckoned I would have only one frame to snap it's exit so it was going to be hit or miss. I missed in terms of getting it sharply focused but at least I got the bee flying out!
