Fat herons, skinny penguins

The management of Dublin Zoo prides itself on the fitness and fatness of its herons.
They are very well feed indeed.
They know that the penguins get fed at 2.30 PM sharp.
The fretting herons start gathering around the penguins? enclosure around 2.20 PM.
The pre-feeding frenzy protocol starts with a demonstration of force between alpha herons, to decide which one of them will go and threaten the ridiculously small black and white competition. threaten
When the keeper finally arrives with his bucket of barely thawed delights, all hell breaks loose. The herons fight amongst themselves, they fight with the penguins, they fight with the keeper.
They get the lions share (figuratively).
The little beta penguins quiver with fear in a crevice. Today?s keeper was a good soul, he went to each of them at the end of the proceedings and dropped a mushy sardine in their beak, at point blank.
Meanwhile the gibbons were giving out about the hailstone showers.
