The Baltic Sea is blooming

Would you like to swim in this porridge? This should be a picture of fresh, pure and clear seawater.

I went kayaking to our beautiful islands just to find out that Blue-green algae had started to bloom in Espoo archipelago. For a month or so it is not possible to swim in the sea because of the cyanobacterias.

"Aquatic cyanobacteria are probably best known for the extensive and highly visible blooms that can form in both freshwater and the marine environment and can have the appearance of blue-green paint or scum. The association of toxicity with such blooms has frequently led to the closure of recreational waters when blooms are observed" (from Wikipedia).

It seems that the whole Baltic Sea should be closed for the sake of its bad condition.

It is a pity and a crying shame that we have let the situation develop this far.
