Ivy Tree - a tree full of Sparrows

Opposite our house is an old buiding, now the Masonic Hall. Growing against the end wall is the biggest Ivy Tree many of us have ever seen. We all know that Ivy is a plant that grows up other trees, walls etc, but this one is really amazing. It appears to have a trunk and branches! So many people come here to take photos of it. And it holds a lovely colony of very noisy House-sparrows! They swoop and swirl around on forays into our garden, and return, chattering, to join their families, it seems as if it is an apartment block that only houses Sparrows; a Pigeon tried to nest there last year and soon got its eviction notice from its outraged neighbours. I kept expecting to see a protest fly-by of Sparrows, all carrying little signs reading NIMBY or similar. As I went out just now to get this shot (9.20 pm) the noise was astonishing, such a healthy population, though you can't see them actually in there. One Sunday, as we came out to go to church, I was just in time to see another local bird, a hunting Sparrowhawk, sweep across the gardens and crash into the ivy tree at speed, blindly chasing after its terrified quarry - a sparrow! They all survived that time but we have seen it drive blackbirds into our house windows and grab the stunned birds from our garden and fly off with them! I digress, it is not easy to get a shot of the ivy tree as there are usually cars in the way during the day. So marvel at the way this Ivy tree has grown and I hope I have not sent you to sleep with my ramblings.
