Aliens in the Garden
Our hibiscus is in bloom and has again justified her existence for a while longer. Living 6 months of the year inside the house and six months outside wouldn't be such a big deal if it wasn't such a humongous task getting the thing up and down the porch steps. As it is, it's a task that sits rather low on our list of fun things to do.
Why I ever thought getting a tropical plant would be a good idea is beyond me. I remember being quite smitten with the fact she had 2 different colours of flowers, but of course she has long ceased to be anything but a single colour.
The flowers are quite something though. Frilly like poppies, but with hairy alien antennas sticking out. Insects are not keen on them, except for Japanese beetles and I am not keen on Japanese beetles having their way with her.
So, the Beloved will once again rolls his eyes in the fall when there is talk of frost, but for now our Biscuit is blooming enthusiastically and winter is far, far away.
