The first of the Summer 2011 volunteers
The picture shows Ciara, Fiona, Máire, Mary and Alison outside the airport in Lilongwe after 24 hours on the road. Mary and I came yesterday and stayed with old friends now, the Ambassador and his wife Catherine, overnight. Ciara knew the six hour haul that was ahead of us, but the others thought we had a little drive to Mzuzu!!.
What amazes me about our volunteers, besides the fact that they give up their time, pay for their travel and expenses, and work so hard while they're here ia that there is no hidden agenda, no Evangelization, no personal gain, no thanks from Official Malawi and certainly no holiday, in the normal sense of the word: they just come to help.
Of course what they find, in remote , rural communities is the warm heart of Africa, where they will have the most significant impact.
Mulli Ulli guys.
