GYMKHANA!

So every year on the last Saturday of our Month long sessions we have what is called Gymkhana. This is our bi-annual rodeo for the campers. There are three events that take place: Pole Bending, Barrels, and Key-hole. For these events campers practice for the entire month different events and pick their favorite two events to participate in. This is always a huge day for the campers because it's the day for out riding campers to show off their skills in front of the entire camp.

The staff also take this day very seriously. As you can see Will-O here (featured in previous entries) is carrying the good ole' American flag as he gallops his horse around the arena during the Wranglers presentation of riding during the beginning of the day. The other counselors all dress in their "finest" attire. Many of the girls wear sundresses and cowgirl hats. Where as the girls take the day to bust out their finest dresses the boys take things in a different direction. For instance I was dressed as Mel Gibson in Braveheart with half of my face painted blue and wearing a homemade kilt, someone was dressed as Flash Gordon, a couple dressed as cowboys with painted on mustaches, and some just wore their most torn up clothing...it's days like this that I appreciate camp the most!
