The Gate

"Sure to Rise' - Ode to Thomas Edmonds 1858-1932

The gate is to the entrance to the Edmonds gardens which were well known throughout Australasia as they featured on the cover of the popular Edmonds Cookbook which is still being published today.

From humble beginnings creating 'Baking Powder' Edmonds is synonymous
with contributing signifcantly to the architectual history of Christchurch - The Civic Theatre;The Theosophical Society;Repetory Theatre;Band Rotunda;Clock Tower and Telephone Cabinet - it is sad to see his buildings of such significance are all along the Avon River within the Christchurch Central Business District which sustained such intense damage.
