After

My back is tired but all the half price Canadian Tire begonias are tucked in and fertilized.

Here's the bed before.
And here.

Photographed immediately after I finished, before chickweed intrudes again and the slugs get busy...the ones that appeared as soon as the soil was moistened. Slugs eat my spinach. If chickweed tastes like spinach why don't slugs eat chickweed. Another thing to wonder about.

Now to pay attention to my own garden and see what invaded and chewed, as well as what grew and bloomed while my attention was diverted. These are "perfect days!"

We were required to memorize a long passage by Mr. Lowell in Grade Eight. Odd and pleasant how those things stick.

"What is so rare as a day in June(July?)
Then if ever come perfect days.
Then heaven tries earth if it be in tune
And over it softly her warm ear lays."

James Russell Lowell
