Joe all grown up

I am thinking about the fact that many adult men, often in position of high power, choose to go by their childhood nicknames. We had us Jimmy and Bill for presidents (Carter and Clinton), Dick for vice-president (Cheney). Jim (Lovell) almost made it to the moon in Apollo 13 mission; Gene (Kranz) from Mission Control brought him home safely. All thanks to Chuck (Yeager), who kindly broke the sound barrier and made it all possible.

I am sure it is the same for women, but the image brought men to mind.

But I digress.

The building above is the Sanderson center, a fabulous gym/fitness facility on the Mississippi State's campus. Funded by one Joe Frank Sanderson, who, presumably, was quite grown up at the time when he could afford to sponsor this truly wonderful facility.

Thanks, Joe. Lovely place to work out and escape the heat. "Temperatures are expected to exceed 105 degrees Fahrenheit in more than a dozen states this week, and at least five U.S. cities are under an excessive heat warning.
