Eastern box turtle
I was out in Griffy Woods taking photos of fungi when I ran into this girl.
Had a quick moment of panic when I saw her because I had the wrong lens on! Ducked behind a tree, switched lenses, came back out and realized...
...it was a turtle--it wasn't exactly going to run off or anything. Silly me!
I guess I'm used to photographing fast, furry things, not slow reptiles.
Best mushroom shot of the day:
Cantharellus minor--less than 2 cm high! The shot is just a little bit too grainy for me to be happy with it so you get the turtle instead...
Edit: I have corrected the gender since a friend of mine has pointed out that female box turtles have brown eyes, males have red. So this is a girl.
