Picking your Spot
It's the "Beach on Fire" firework display tonight here on the Venetian Peninsular. It's held every year and is always a good show, the whole length of the peninsular is lit up with beautiful firework displays which run late into the night (fingers crossed late enough so they can mean my blip is sorted for tomorrow!!)
Every year, along with the fantastic displays also comes the curious behaviour of certain human beings, and every year it intrigues me. It doesn't begin until about three o'clock in the afternoon (over 8 hours before the show itself actually starts!), but as soon as it starts comes to resemble a sight which cave men must have been very familiar with as they rushed to get the best bits of a fresh kill, it's the ubiquitous "my deck chair marks my space routine".
Today it took only one person to place two white plastic chairs at the back of the beach (the beach is cordoned off later so you can't actually sit on it) for the primeval show to start. People were running from all over, there was shouting and some families were arguing over which spot would afford the best view, yelling and gesticulating wildly, it really is quite a sight. SO now along the whole length of the peninsular (about 12 miles!!) there are is a row of chairs as far as the eye can see.
I didn't feel like explaining to them that as fireworks tend to go in the air, you don't need to be front row centre to see them.
I'll also give you three guesses as to which nationality all of these people were, I always think it's particularly stereotypical.
