Tern

We visited the Bolsa Chica Ecological Preserve in Hunnington Beach for a little exercise. The weather was beautiful, sunny with a nice ocean breeze - perfect for walking the unprotected loop trail around the water. When we got to the north end, there were a bunch of photographers lined up shooting shots of diving terns. Every few minutes one of the hovering birds, would flutter their wings, rear up (like shown here), and dive into the water below. I tried to get them hitting the water, but even with my 8 frame per second Canon 7D I only got one decent photo a bird approaching the water - which didn't show off the bird near as well as this photo does.
