Day 5 Wallowa Lake - Independance Day!
A day to celebrate!! Another beautiful day here. We spent part of the morning doing a little hiking and stopping for treats at a nearby ice cream shop. After having a huge potluck style bbq with the rest of our camping group we all piled into a truck and drove a short distance to the town of Joseph where we eagerly awaited their firework show. I think this show is the best kept secret in Oregon! The fireworks were all lit over the lake so the reflection of them in the water was stunning. Even more captivating than the bright colored lights in the sky and over the water was the loud boom of the fireworks that would roll through the mountains like thunder. It was truly incredible.
All the kids seemed to love the show with the exception of Carter who fell asleep a few minutes before it started and naturally slept through the entire thing. I felt bad he missed it but he didn't seem to want to wake up despite our efforts. He's notorious for falling asleep at the drop of a hat whether it be at a restaurant, basketball game, meeting...you name it and he'll fall asleep there.
It was a fun day celebrating with friends and celebrating our country.
