day one
bit of a trip - west, for a change, based in newton stewart in a cottage for a week. cottage not bad, cottage site great. ns indifferent, ns geographically perfect. that'll do it.
got up and dragged my gear onto the jam-packed train to carlisle (stood all the way), then through carlisle station and onto an empty train for the brief trip across to gretna, which from the map and train timetables seemed the best bet for meeting the folks driving over. worked out just fine, dead easy.
so then we trundled off to WWT caerlaverock en route, for a picnic and some peaceful bird spotting to get us in a bit more holiday mood. bit cool, bit grey, but pleasant and suddenly an hour and more has passed while we've wandered between hides and wowed at the numbers of geese. you may to take it on trust that in this shot there are several thousand geese...
