Stress Buster

Day 295

Our first day on the equine hospital 24 hour care, aka ICU. Today was absolutely a baptism of fire! You have to work out where you have to be, when you have to be there, what you should take with you....and all the while managing to not look like a complete idiot or kill anything!

We are allowed to choose our cases. I chose one with grass sickness cases. Eqine grass sickness is a devistating wasting disease of horses. They don't yet know what causes it yet, and the Royal (Dick) Veterinary School is the centre for research. The horses guts slowely stop working, eventually the paralysis of the gastroentinal system is so severe, they can't even physically pick food up with themselves. With this chronic form, some horses recover, and some just waste away infront of their owner's eyes. However, my case was a fat Highland Pony, and I am CONVINCED she's managed to blag her way into the vet school so I would feed her every 2 hours of the day and night, with whatever she wanted!

Smoking's minging, but I could almost forgive Rob for needing a fag after today!
