Mischief Managed

The end. Deathly Hallows Part II is finally out in theatres in the US. I went to the midnight showing last night in Oxford and was completely blown away.

I saw The Sorcerer's Stone ten years ago. I had received the book for Christmas, but for some reason couldn't possibly imagine how the story of a boy wizard could possibly appeal to me, a 14 year old girl. I was wrong. I left the theatre and promptly read books 1-4 within the next week or two. From then on, it was midnight book releases of The Half-Blood Prince and the Deathly Hallows, and making it to the midnight movie releases when I could. Like many others the world over, I was in love with the story of the Boy Who Lived, and his story was as important to me as any.

Last night (I guess I should say this morning) still doesn't seem real. I laughed at their usual shenanigans, and, even though I knew the outcome, cried as Harry marched his way into the Forbidden Forrest to meet his fate. The final shot of the film, the trio 19 years after the defeat of Voldemort, brought me to tears as well.

I hope that when I grow up, I will be able to share the magic of the Harry Potter series with my own children, and let them know just how much the story of Harry, Ron, and Hermione was an essential part of my generation's childhood.

In the words of the Marauder's, "Mischief Managed." In the words of a fb friend, "Mischief Managed. For good."
