Rübsam's Remnant, Dusseldorf

The remnants of this war memorial to the members of the 39th Fusilier Regiment was created in 1928 by Jupp Rübsam, this sculpture immediately caused controversy in right-wing circles and was demolished as soon as the Nazis came to power. All that remains is this head and part of the torso. Together these pieces serve as a reminder of terror and intolerance.

I loved seeing the massive mosaics, also from the Twenties; My alternative title for this masterpiece is 'Swingers Rave On.' I was truly enamoured with the wonderfully abstract and threatening 'The Night.'
