New roof new rules

Tonights walk home was rather stilted as we stopped every few minutes to get shots for my 300mm project. I have uploaded some of the first attempts to myFlickr page
and more of todays should be added over the weekend.

This Blip was an impromptu shot but when I looked at it on the big screen I realised it conveyed the changing times.

The ancient Cathedral roof is highly pitched and therefore dangerous to work on. I recall my Dad once telling me about a time when he was an apprentice plumber he had to climb up a rickety old wooden triple extension ladder carrying half a hundredweight of lead sheet on his shoulder to be used in redressing the valleys and flashings etc.

In contrast the more modern roof of the office block (not that new, possibly 1970s) has a safety rail all the way around DESPITE it being quite safe to walk around upon.

I also know of some newer buildings that have a safety wire system installed , so in theory you can't fall off as long as you stay attached by your harness.
