Today I drove Rowan to Haddington, put money in her hand and watched her and her friends watch their bus leave for Edinburgh - without them. I suddenly developed selective hearing and just kept walking back to the car. Back at the car someone had parked behind me leaving me stuck in my parking space. So I wasn't going anywhere either.

Back at the ranch (finally) I started work on the path leading into the garden. Sam finally emerged from his room (amazing that he wasn't blinded by the light) and helped me. I am no fool and waited for him to reveal what exactly he wanted. He wanted beer. For a camping trip he had planned with a couple of friends. In the end Nick took him to pick up his friends, buy a few beers and then some food - their planning having not got beyond beer.

Rowan returned home with her bargains and then departed for a sleepover. I went rally driving with the three boys sat in the back directing me. At one point I did think that I might have to signal a rescue party with a flare - having driven so deeply into the Lammermuirs in search of their fabled 'campsite'. When we finally arrived about forty minutes later, it transpired that a simple right turn (that I had suggested at the beginning of the journey) would have got us there in ten. I left them in the rain and drove away quickly.

Murron spent the day with her nose in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, her beloved Timber tucked under her arm. She has steadily worked her way through all the books and we are not allowed to see the final film until she has finished.

So it's just the three of us and we are having a mellow evening watching the very brilliant Modern Family - as many episodes as we like :)

Have a great weekend.
