Curonian Spit - a sandy spit, which is located on the Baltic coast. The name is derived from the spit of the ancient tribes Cours, who lived here before the colonization by Germans of Prussia.

Length - 98 km, the width varies from 400 meters to 3.8 kilometers. Here, in a very small distance from each other coexist very different landscapes: sandy desert, coniferous forest, birch west Russia. Spit like a museum of natural areas. The body consists of a spit of sand covered with a thin (a few centimeters thick) layer of vegetation. The formation of this layer in place for decades.

Actually Spit is a peninsula, as in the area of Klaipeda is the strait connecting the lagoon and the Baltic Sea, which in the lagoon and go back to court.
