A displaced Kentuckian

I think a similar shot was one of my first blips, but I went ahead and did a day shot (the other was night).

This is undoubtedly one of my favorite spots at Ole Miss because it reminds me of my friend Skylar and because of my Civil Rights Class.
The Civil Rights Movement became one of my subjects to study in Spring 2007 when I took a history of the Civil Rights Movement class. That class was by far the best class I've ever taken, college and law school combined. The woman who taught it became my mentor for an undergraduate thesis project about Freedom Summer. Skylar also became one of my best friends that semester. He wrote his paper for the class about the Integration of Ole Miss.

Nearly a year after the class, Skylar and I decided to visit Ole Miss for "research" when all we really wanted to do was visit. He had been before, I never had. We left Bowling Green at around 4am and got to Oxford around 11. The Circle/Lyceum was the first place we went, to see this statute. Since he was an expert of sorts about the integration, we walked around the area and he talked to me about what happened- "Just imagine this place filled with rioting people." It was hard to believe, but I've seen the photos and enough documentaries to know that it was possible. We wandered around campus for a while, talking about life and what we had learned in our class. WE left Oxford around 4pm and made it back to Bowling Green later that night.

Every time I am in the Circle or if I decide to study at JD Williams instead of the law library, I think of Skylar and my first visit to Ole Miss. I guess it's fitting that I ended up here for law school.

"Oxford Town" sung by Bob Dylan is a good song to listen to for this entry.
