Sundays' Big Run
My running plan said 14 miles on Sunday.
14 miles it was.
It's funny how 3 or 4 miles in the week on familiar roads can seem hard work but 14+ miles at the weekend out into the countryside can seem relatively easy.
I chugged away through perfect running weather - slight drizzle, mild, not too windy.
This view represents the last hill I had to run up. The church at the top is that of St Arilda, a little known virgin martyr. Oldbury on Severn, for which this is the parish church, was called Aldberie at the time of the Domesday book so may be named after her. There is also an Oldbury upon Severn which is a bit closer to the estuary.
History and wikipedia aside, this church can be seen from miles around as it sits on a neat little hillock.
As I ran down the other side Son #1 and #2 were running up to meet me with Mrs Running Backwards. I'd only seen them a few hours previously but they greeted me like a traveller returning from an epic voyage. It's good being a Dad!
All done by 10.30 followed by a trip to Old Down country park. The rain meant that nobody was there but a cup of tea and a round of the assault course entertained us..!
Run: 14.68 miles@10.04 min/mile. 2289 kcal - soon replaced with some mini pasties!
