Ferry and fireweed
Rosebay Willowherb likes open fields, pastures, and especially burnt ground, hence its other name of 'fireweed'. The seeds can remain viable in the soil for many years, until a fire or disturbance exposes the ground to sunlight and allows them to germinate. This headland is covered with gorse which is often burnt (accidentally or deliberately), allowing dense regrowth of Rosebay Willowherb.
In the background is the 'Stena Europe' heading out of the harbour at the start of its afternoon crossing to Rosslare.
