The Neville Files

Geezers

We launched our Portobello Road Market film today and God was smiling on us as there were meant to be torrential downpours all day but they held off until we'd packed up for the day.

You may have noticed how I'd been a bit down on Portobello compared to Brixton Market and today kind of showed why. So many of the 'rich' crowd were dismissive of the young people handing out leaflets encouraging them to sit down and view the film. You'd think they were trying to rob them! BUT we also had a lot of the old intellectual/hippy/radical crowd who were absolutely beaming at what the kids had achieved. We also had the traders and geezers who loved it!

These three had a great time reminiscing amongst each other. One of them's dad had a pitch on the corner in the 1920s, another used to ride the horse that drew the barrow down the market and the third remembered looking out of his bedroom window at the man with a wind up organ and a parrot!

You can watch the film here.
