Emerging dragonfly - but reach for the tissues!

This is such a sad story I'm afraid. I was so excited this afternoon to see at last one of the dragonfly newly out of it's case with wings ready to unfurl. I took a few pictures then about 20 minutes later went to see how it was getting on. By this time the wings were quite extended and folded down it's back, more pictures. Shortly after Mike called out that it had fallen in the water and he was trying to rescue it. Eventually it was placed on a leaf in the sun to dry out as it was drenched. Sadly the poor thing just expired. All that growing and effort to climb up the stem, it made me sad all day.
I had to leave soon after to drive to York hospital to see my old friend. Sad to see her in poor health but we talked and made plans. Good to see her still making the effort to dress with style and looking forward.
