I'm going to a town...
1. Up at the crack of twelve after a pretty epic session with the book I'm reading. I like it when I get like this. For the past few years I have kept a diary of what I have read, when. Each year, around this time I get stuck on a book. Last year it was that Tom Wolfe brick 'I am Charlotte Simmons', the year before it was 'Beloved'. There's no rhyme or reason - well that's not strictly true - one was too pish and the other was too hard - but I refused to give up. This year it was Lady Chatterly. I have a friend staying in my house just now and when I was tidying for her coming, I just put it back on the shelf half done. Deep down I know it's not coming back off. So it's nice to be reading again.
2. Straight out for what I hoped would be a six and a half mile run but was less due to the fact that blah, blah, blah (it's cause I'm lazy). I did do just under five which is good enough for me. I know exactly how lucky I am to be running along a beach in the sun at lunchtime on a Monday.
3. I head off to Troon. I don't know why, I just do. It's a journey that starts sunny and ends in a lot of rain. An awful lot of rain. Ooh and ballet pumps in the sale. The sky is clearing again now though and from my window seat, the view looks bright.
4. For the last week I've been eating terribly - kebab was odds on favourite for tonight - but out of left field I have a great big plateful of lovliness.
5. Just as I am funny about reading, I have my own way of listening to music. I tend to get a bit obsessed about one thing for a while and move on to the next. Two of those past obsessions have new albums out. They Might Be Giants have 'Join Us' and Rufus Wainwright has 'House of Rufus'. On the radio Rufus is album of the week and they play 'I'm going to a town' just as I pull into Troon. It takes my breath away.
