Delfouso's through! - ooooooh good save!
For the second time this week I went to Bescot Stadium, this time to see Walsall vs Aston Villa in Villa's first pre season friendly in preperation for the new campaign. Considering this it was a very promising start, even if we were only facing Walsall. Given made his debut, but had very little to do apart from a Walsall free kick hitting the post early on, but made up for it by spending the majority of his time shouting instructions to the defence.
Dunne and Collins were assured as usual; they have a very good partnership. Luke Young was solid as ever on the right, and it was great to see Stephen Warnock back in the fold and playing well too. Makoun and Petrov were a presence in the middle, Makoun in particular looking well settled and combative.
Super Marc Albrighton was probably man of the match on the right, every time he had the ball he was looking to beat his man and make something happen.
Stephen Ireland made a rare start behind Bent and was lively, good movement and looking inventive, it was a shame he had such a short cameo, coming off towards the end of the first half for Delfounso. Heskey was stuck out on the left wing, not sure why but he managed to grab a goal so it wasn't all bad. Bannan came on too and was very lively, all over the park and keeping the team ticking over.
Delfounso ran hard and had several good opportunities and will be disappointed he didn't grab a goal. This is him above taking on the Saddler's new keeper Matt Sadler, who made a fine save to keep this effort out and several others during his second half appearance.
