The Avon Aqueduct

This was taken on the way back from Muiravonside Country Park just outside Linlithgow.

The Avon Aqueduct is on the Union Canal and is the longest and tallest aqueduct in Scotland, and the second longest in Britain. It is 810 ft long and 86 ft high. The water is carried in a cast iron trough across twelve arches. There is a towpath on both sides used regularly by walkers and cyclists. Following the restoration of the Forth and Clyde and Union Canals, barges can be seen again travelling across the aqueduct.
