Graffiti
We headed into Melbourne again today as one of the presents Adrian got me for my birthday I already had, so we went to change it :-)
The photo is from Union Lane in Melbourne city centre.
Here's a little bit about it:
The City of Melbourne has reinstated the Union Lane street art mural with new works. Located in the heart of Melbourne?s busy central city retail hub, the lane links Bourke Street Mall and Little Collins Street.
The Union Lane street art murals were first produced as part of the City?s Graffiti Mentoring Project. Both professional artist/mentors and young volunteer mentorees produced the works over several weeks in late 2007 and early 2008. The project was managed by the City?s Arts and Participation Program.
Recently, the City of Melbourne has noted an increased amount of tagging on the site and a recent audit established that more than 90 per cent of the 540sqm mural is damaged beyond repair with tags and other graffiti inflicted over its entire length.
Despite the damage of original work, Union Lane is still attracting visitors daily. The City of Melbourne is seeking to reinstate the wall to include new works created by contemporary, well known street artists.
The new works will span the entire length of both the east and west walls.
