The characteristic feature of the medium

Finnish photography artist Martti Kapanen (Kapa) said in a photography forum that "the most important thing is to find the characteristic feature of the medium and from that, trying to find the way to utilize it that is most suitable for oneself".

It is pretty obvious when someone says it, but never before crossed my mind. What is the characteristic feature of the photographic medium? And what is the essence of mobiel photography? And how could I utilize it?

I suppose I have to give that some thought in the following days. Meanwhile, I photographed my goddaughter by the stream - with my HTC Desire, of course. This time I did some conventional post-processing in Lightroom (b+w conversion, some contrasts and local adjustments). I believe that it is as good as with any other camera.

I am still in a phase where I have to convince myself that cell phone photos are admissible enough...
