The house that jack built

In Vancouver, it is normal to strip back an 'old timer' house to its shell, then jack it up on stilts while a whole new basement suite is constructed.

There is usually an extension to the main house and it will likely be sub-divided into three units (two semi detached and the basement apartment). There is substantial profit to be made by dividing up an old house in this way, with each unit worth around $1.5m.
