Laggan Wolftrax
An outing months in the planning.
Today though, my mate Rob and I finally made it to the notorious Laggan Wolftrax MTB Trails, set on the stage of Strathmashie Forest.
We'd both used a day's annual leave, and left as early as possible to spend a whole days riding on the technical rock-fest! The plan really couldn't have been executed any sweeter, especially with the blue skies that were blessed us.
Our first climb took us to the lower red section of the trail, looking to break ourselves in gently. Fast and flowing, it was an amazing confidence booster; especially after breezing over the black-graded "Air's Rock" feature.
So it was onto the black next, which we'd been warned was tight and testing. If the wolftrax was going to show her teeth it would be here. Not today, as both of us were on superb form, navigating nearly every aspect of this fearsome trail.
A descent on the Orange Bike Park allowed us to pit-stop and grab a late lunch at the on-site Cafe. Re-fuelled, it could only be a full circuit on the red - upper & lower, to finish off for the day. This really was an epic ride, especially the blast down from the "Wolf's Lair".
This has by far been the best experience I've had on my mountain bike to date. There were no technical issues, no crashes or fails. It was the kind of ride that you will measure every route that follows against.
The bar has been raised.
