School's Out

Today, a local high school is burning. An older school scheduled for replacement sometime in the next decade (as governments work) had a fire early this morning apparently starting in the boiler room area that happened to be in the half of the school without a sprinkler system. The building is 42 years old and started ablaze around 7am before students were let in for classes (or many students, some band members were inside practicing, I heard, but got out ok). Also overheard a student talking about last week the temperature inside the school was 54 degrees (F), that the boiler wasn't working. Good thing it didn't happen while classes were full. I had to drive out to get some photos. Lots of other lookie-loos, too.

The school was unable to be saved, so the fire departments (this was a 5-alarm fire) were protecting other structures and controlling the burn. Faculty and helpers were trying to salvage some items out of classrooms and the cafeteria; tables, chairs, refrigerators, etc. Pretty much a total loss, though, including student records. Those going on to college will have some extra work to do to gather documentation, etc. Hopefully, it won't be too much of a hassle.
