I don't know why, but the day the Booker Prize longlist is announced has become important to me. I suppose it's the idea of pitting my wits against the judges while at the same time exercising my brain. In case you haven't heard of it, the Man Booker Prize is awarded to the "best" literary novel published in the UK.

Last year I hadn't read any of the titles at this stage, this year I've already read two and I'm currently reading a third. Will the best novel win? Probably not, but maybe there are a few on the list worth checking out.
