Walking to work
I travel from Essex into London every day for work. A friend who moved to London from Manchester was astounded at the distances people travel in London! Anyway. I have just decided to try out a new route into work. My previous route was 14 stops on two different tube lines followed by a bus (or a walk if there was no bus). I have been trying out whether it is quicker/more pleasant to get the tube then an overground train and then walk. Lots less stops but it is a 1.9 mile walk from Fenchurch Street station to work. I know one other person that does it so I thought I'd give it a go.
The walk is through the city and there's some great architecture to look at including St Pauls cathedral. The journey usually takes the same amount of time or sometimes a little more depending on how long I need to wait for the overground. I think it can only be good to walk 4 miles a day! Although I get less reading done.
I am going to keep using this new route. At least on days when it isn't tipping it down or icy on the pavements!
