Look what popped up!
Standing by Lotus Pond in the Arboretum, I was searching for dragonflies when something strange popped up, wearing some lily pads on its head. Look closely, or better yet, look at it large , and you will see two beady eyes and a whiskery nose. I think it is a beaver or perhaps a muskrat. I didn't get to see the entire animal, just the part that was sticking out of the water and peering at me from under the lily pads. It would have been fun to be able to show it to the group of children this budding naturalist was a part of. They were having a great time dipping into the pond with their nets. Oh what wonders they discovered.
Weather report: Today was a quintessential summer day...hot, but not too hot, with low humidity and puffy clouds in the sky. A day to remember come January!
