Feathers

It has been a beautiful day on the edge of Europe. Have a look at Dieseldaisy's glorious pic to see just how fabulous it was.

Didn't manage to get to the beach myself but the chooks were enjoying the sunshine and showing off their pretty feathers so you get to see them instead of a sunlit landscape.

We've had the new hens for a couple of months now and they are maturing nicely. Black Rocks which are mainly black with chestnut around the head and breast. Good shape, clean legs and thick glossy feathers to keep them cosy in our wild winds. And of course... superb egg layers!

This little lady still has a fairly small comb. These get larger as the hens mature and the size of the comb seems to relate to the place in the pecking order. I may imagine this or it may be coincidence but they top birds do seem to be the ones with the biggest combs. The combs should also be a nice strong colour, when the hens are not well their combs go all peellie wally.

Bet you all wanted to know this didn't you?
