Sgwarnog: In the Field

Self Portrait With Bugs

There's a serious message behind the playful image.

This still pool is in Baildon Beck, which runs off the moor into the village. It shouldn't be a still pool, it should be a stream. The stream has virtually dried up as it relies principally on what had normally been the constant overflow from the reservoirs. With the knocking through of the two lower reservoirs, there was a brief tidal wave of oveflow, followed by nothing. This is yet another unplanned for unacknowledged consequence of the reservoir development. The hydrology of the moor, and therefore the flora and fauna, is likely to be affected for some time to come.
