Spam Valley
It's a long time since I'd heard this estate called 'Spam Valley', but at one point it was, along with 'Corn-Beef Canyon' over the road, due to the fact that they were probably the village's first purpose-built private houses and anyone moving into a house here could only afford to eat meat out of a tin. Or something like that.
They're not all that old either as I remember being chased by the 'watchie' when the estate was being constructed as that was much more interesting than the nearby Public park to play in.
These ones though are looking a bit decrepit nowadays and I was wondering if they would've ever got to this condition if they'd actually been on a council estate.
Had a scoot-aboot around some of the village today on the bikes, giving Euan a bit of a history lesson on what when on where -"Used to fight with all the Banchory lot here...", "Great for playing kiss, cuddle and torture this bit...", "Policeman kicked me in the arse for playing in the cemetery here...", "Best conkers off that tree..". All pretty exhausting in the heat, but it was good fun and I think Euan's now convinced bikes are actually pretty useful.
Off to rub some dock leaves on all the jaggy nettle stings now.
