Poppy
During the first week of November every year, poppies are worn to commemorate the lives of soldiers who die or are injured in the various wars that the United Kingdom participates in across the world. The money raised goes to loved ones, families and the soldiers themselves.
Today, mum and I went for a walk around the path networks in the local area - the place where the majority of both of our Blips come from. This poppy sat in solitude, surrounded by gravel and weeds. I like poppies and poppy related things (not opium...). I even think Poppy is a nice name for a wee girl.
When I can spare the change, I put some coins in to the collection box, but I don't take the poppy for my jacket. To me, the wearing of it, much like the Marie Curie Daffodil and the Pink Ribbon for supporting women with breast cancer, is bittersweet.
