Wildcat, Newtonmore
Driving through Newtonmore today and I spotted a model wildcat on the roof of a hotel. I didn't think too much of it as I knew that there was a walking circuit around here called "The Wildcat Trail" and assumed that it was some sort of reference to that. However, a little further on I spied another model wildcat in the garden of a B&B. This one was painted unusually, and I began to wonder...
It was when we were walking down the edge of the golf course and we saw this rainbow wildcat that my suspicions were well and truly aroused. A little googling later revealed that there are 79 painted fibreglass wildcats to be found around the Newtonmore area. It's called "The Wildcat Experience" and if you find more than 25 you get a certificate, more than 50 a prize and all 79 an even bigger prize. Details can be found here: https://sites.google.com/site/wildcatsnewtonmore/gallery. I so want to do it! I found all the cows (except the stolen ones!) during Edinburgh's 2006 Cow Parade and love this sort of thing, so I am currently trying to work out how to incorporate The Wildcat Experience into the remainder of our school holiday!
