The wonders of nature...

and my inabilities as a photographer.

De temps en temps I start sprouting seeds to add to salads etc. The other day I started some wee beans and today I thought I'd weed out the invalid ones, dross, etc.

I got quite a surprise to see how little of a legume you need to start a sprout. One of these days I'll take some of the broken 1/2s and 1/4s and see if they'll grow.

In the centre there's a full sized bean for comparison.
