Come On Over to My Neighborhood
Little walk in the neighborhood today. The to-do list lengthens - it's not a bad thing to be so full of ideas, tasks, projects, dreams that you must make copious lists, I suppose.
I always loved lists. As a kid I used to make them and put them in alphabetical order. I'd go through our old encyclopedias and write down every animal I came across, or every plant, or other such things. Or countries. I loved countries and geography. And then I'd alphabetize them.
I have a distinct memory - I can't have been more than 5, sitting on the couch in our first house in Wills Point, trying to think of every first name I could. Then alphabetizing them.
I used to have my mom buy me big poster board and make project boards all about one country or one person. For fun.
I guess the more I think about, the more I was always destined to end up working in some great warehouse of knowledge at some point - this is where I have my roots, where I learned how big the world was, how I knew I didn't always have to be a little country kid with not much money in suburban Texas. The big countries, the big cities, the big world outside of the tiny one I grew up in.
I've said it before, but I've lived so much in such a short time, I can't imagine there will ever be a point in my life that I think I haven't done enough. There's already so much.
I'm ready to open this next chapter, to get moving already, but life is slow when you want it to be fast, and fast when you want it slow.
