G-ARPO
As I was pulling out of the supermarket car park this afternoon I saw the most amazing sight, XH558 the last flying Vulcan in the world was swooping through the sky on approach to DTV airport.
Even thought I'm not really a plane spotter, I've always found the history of The Vulcan interesting and so I popped over to the airport in the hope that I might get a couple of pictures of it on the ground.
Sadly it had only been making a low level flyby through the airport and so it was no where to be seen. As I was driving back out I spotted this sad looking sight on a low loader and from a bit of research I've found out that it is G-ARPO , the last fully complete Trident HC1 (although obviously its in bits at the moment!!)
It's been used as a training vehicle for the airport fire service for the past 26 or so years, and it's now being rescued by the North East Aircraft Museum and will eventually be restored to it's former glory.
I also got a little tip off that the Vulcan will be passing by again tomorrow at a specific time so fingers crossed I'll get to see it up close!
