In a Jam!
Left Lamlash in Arran at 3 pm to catch 15.45 ferry as I needed to be in Benderloch by 7.30pm.......no way Hosie. when we boarded the ferry my phone had a traffic alert of an accident on the A83 and warning of closure near Stonefirld Castle so when we got off , the three of us travelling in a car each looped round the Kilberry road which is single track. There were no police or signs just a couple of forrestry boys at the Tarbert Kilberry road end. Needless to say the police must have been at the Ardrishaig end of the Kilberry road and were directing all the traffic along it
. At one point I let a 4x4 pass me as I know they have an aversion to passing places so I was tucked nicley in behind him and everything was going fine until a stupid campervan coming in the opposite direction let the first car pass then he pulled out onto the road to race a head to force the 4x4 into a pass, only there as no passing place and would the stupid eejit campervan driver reverse "too narrow " he snarled, I will end up in the ditch" "well you should have thought of that before you pulled out" said the 4x4 driver, at this point both wives came out and I was just stuck behind watching it all. Finally after a 5min stand off mr stupid camper van edged his van a centimetre to the left while mr 4x4 edged towards the drop on the shore side. Tense moment ! they squeaked past and I just follwed under the asumption if the 4x4 can do it so can I and I did.
Anyhow a few more miles up just past Kilberry Inn and the traffic had ground to a halt with the few passing vehicles saying it was gridlock at Achahoish with farmers parking up over 100 cars in the fileds to ease the pressure. In the meantime (after 4 hours) and by which time my car was running on fumes, we all turned BACK and horsed on towards Tarbert and turned left onto the main road . There was absoulutly no police signs, no sign of an accident yet we heard sadly it was yet another motor cycle fatality. In the great scheme of things our inconvenience was therefore small, however the police slipped up somewhere.
Needless to say I didnt make it on to Benderloch as it had taken me 4 houors to get home. But at least I as safe!
