Which witch is wych
A beautiful day for a walk through Hagley Park.A stunner really, the daffs are not far away, the snowdrops and crocus' are out.
Here we have a beautifully scented witch hazel.
In colonial america, the plants flexible forked branches were used as "witching branches" by dowsers as they hunted out hidden waters or precious metals.
It had nothing to do with witches but rather the old english word "wych" or pliable branch. The leaves closely resemble the american hazelnut.
