Contemplation
A couple of days ago I mentioned that taking photos for this blip has made me look more closely at things. It has also helped me rediscover things which I overlook as they are so familiar.
Like this carving. I bought this a couple of years ago from a local shop which specialises is fairly traded craft goods.
I have a real love of wood and have an ever increasing collection of turned bowls and other artefacts, so this fitted in very well. It is teak, around a foot tall and I fell in love with it as soon as I saw it.
Can you see that it is a figure of a man, cross-legged, with his head in his hands? I suppose it could be a depiction of sorrow but I like to think that he's actually meditating or praying. It is beautuful and very tactile.
