Farm kitty
T and N did a trial run harvesting the Linseed. The combine cut well but it wasn't thrashing the seed properly so they were forced to stop until the mechanic adjusts the settings when he comes out this evening to fix a couple of other things on the machine. The crop was certainly dry enough although the sun only shone momentarily.
Instead we let the cow and her recovered calf back into the field with the others. It was interesting to watch. First all the other cows came up and had a good sniff at the calf and at the rear end of the mother and then the three other calves showed interest. At that "our" calf ventured forth and sniffed one of them. Hereford cows are very good mothers. We shall still watch the little calf as we don't want it to get dehydrated by the warm humid weather.
There are three new kittens in the barn and while the mother was feeding K and I went to have a look! Hopefully they are well hidden from the fox or badger in a high-sided cosy nest T made for them. We try and handle them every day so they can get used to us. This will make it easier to find homes for them when the time comes.
