A window that has seen many things.
The ancient Alsatian village of Riquewihr has many houses dating from the 15th and 16th centuries and thankfully suffered only minor damage in the second world war. This ancient cellar window is set into the wall of a house with the date 1562 carved into the stone lintel above its door. I was attracted by the old, worm-eaten woodwork and by the patterns and shapes in the glass, produced by straw stored in the cellar and by spider cobwebs.
